The cross sectional area of the cavity also has a major influence on the residual wall thickness. When the cavity cross section increases, as shown below, the residual wall thickness also increases.

The residual wall thickness decreases as the extensional or strain viscosity increases. Glass fiber reinforced polymers and blends display higher extensional viscosities than homopolymers.
